Youth & Family Privacy

Families can move together without becoming one record. Ready Set Onward is designed so each person has a separate Route, while a parent or guardian can provide appropriate support for a young person.

Under age 16

Ready Set Onward does not knowingly permit a child under 16 to create an independent learner account or independently complete a learner Route. The age check appears before the learner assessment requests a name, email, phone number, ZIP code, goals, or Route details. A parent or legal guardian may use their own account to explore education and support options for a child under 16.

Ages 16–17

A participant age 16 or 17 may use a youth participant account. Youth accounts use parent or guardian safeguards for personalized handoffs and other protected connection tools. Ready Set Onward asks a youth participant for date of birth only to enforce the youth age boundary and determine when the account should transition to independent adult status.

What changes at 18

When a youth participant reaches age 18, the account becomes an independent adult account. Guardian access that existed because the participant was a minor ends. The now-adult participant controls their Route, privacy choices, connections, and future sharing. A parent or other person may continue as a supporter only if the adult participant later chooses to authorize that relationship.

Separate Routes

A parent may have their own Onward Route while also supporting a child. We do not treat the household as one combined profile. Goals, assessments, resumes, support details, provider connections, and outcomes remain associated with the individual Route to which they belong.

Parent-provided information about a younger child

A parent or guardian may provide limited information needed to explore an option for their child. That does not create an independent child account. Ready Set Onward intentionally limits what it asks for and does not require birth certificates, guardianship papers, government IDs, transcripts, IEP files, medical files, FAFSA records, court records, or similar enrollment documents to start navigation.
