Start with a seven-day action plan

Ready Set Onward is designed to reduce the time between 'I need another option' and an actual next step. Learners build a short Onward Plan around their location, education history, estimated credits, schedule, goals, and support needs.

The system prioritizes appropriate schools and resources in the learner's confirmed city. If no suitable local in-person option is available, Onward can surface statewide virtual pathways or route the learner to a Navigator instead of filling the screen with distant or ineligible choices.

Let the learner control the introduction

When a learner chooses an eligible Premium Member school or program, they can say 'Yes—have this school contact me.' Onward can then send a learner-approved Onward Plan Snapshot so the provider understands the learner's goals and selected needs before the first conversation.

Onward does not store transcripts, IDs, IEPs, FAFSA records, or other enrollment documents. Those records go directly to the school or provider. Onward's role is to help the learner prepare, choose, connect, and keep moving.

Stay connected after enrollment

The work does not end when a learner enrolls. Onward's post-enrollment model includes learner surveys and school confirmations at 30, 60, and 90 school days. If either side indicates that enrollment stopped, the learner can re-enter the matching and Navigator process without losing previous work.

Those follow-ups also create structured learner-experience evidence for the Onward Score framework so Onward can compare what programs promise with what learners actually experience over time.

Quick answer: Onward is designed to move a learner from uncertainty to a real next step quickly

Ready Set Onward is not a school and does not replace the provider's enrollment process. It is a navigation and re-engagement layer that helps an Ohio learner understand the available routes, compare appropriate local options, identify practical barriers, create a seven-day action plan, and decide which school, program, employer, or Navigator should be part of the next move.

The model is intentionally built around action. A learner who has already disconnected from school may lose interest if the system asks for weeks of planning before anything happens. Onward aims to help the learner identify a direction, compare realistic options, request contact, and begin the provider's process while motivation is still active.

The first step is understanding the learner's current situation

The learner can provide age range, ZIP code, confirmed city, education status, years spent in grades 9 through 12, estimated credits, expected graduation year, career interests, preferred schedule, learning format, transportation needs, childcare needs, and the main barrier they want help solving. These details are planning inputs, not official school records.

If the learner expects to move within Ohio, the destination city can become the comparison area. Otherwise, current city remains the matching boundary. That rule prevents a Dayton learner from receiving Columbus schools simply because more Columbus data is available.

The seven-day Onward Plan is built for momentum

The seven-day model organizes the learner's immediate actions: clarify the goal, compare local options, request a transcript if useful, choose a school or program, request contact, complete the provider's next step, and choose the route forward. The plan does not assume formal enrollment will be completed within seven days; it assumes that waiting 30 days to act is unnecessary.

Transcripts are treated as helpful but optional at the beginning. A school may need the official record to determine transferable credits, but the learner should be able to ask questions and begin the connection before the document arrives. Onward tracks readiness status rather than storing the transcript itself.

The learner controls who receives their information

A learner can explore schools and programs without automatically becoming a lead. When the learner chooses an eligible Premium Member and explicitly says they want contact, Onward can create a referral and share a limited Onward Plan Snapshot. That Snapshot helps the school understand the learner's goal, education status, schedule fit, career interests, selected support needs, and contact preferences.

The Snapshot excludes transcripts, government IDs, FAFSA records, IEPs, medical records, court documents, and other sensitive enrollment materials. Those records go directly to the school or provider. Learners under 18 require the appropriate guardian authorization before a Snapshot is shared under the current model.

The school should respond like the learner is expected

The emotional experience after a contact request matters. Onward's goal is for the learner to feel that the receiving school knows they are interested and wants to speak with them. Premium Members can opt into a Response Promise, and each learner-selected referral can carry a response deadline. The learner can see whether a request has been received and whether the school has responded.

If the deadline passes without a recorded response, Onward can flag the organization, notify the learner, offer another local option, and provide Navigator help. The goal is not to punish a school for one missed message. It is to prevent a motivated learner from becoming invisible in a referral queue.

Onward stays involved after enrollment

A referral is not the same as an outcome. Onward records enrollment and then schedules follow-up with the learner at enrollment, 30, 60, and 90 school days. The school can also receive simple status check-ins asking whether the learner started and is still enrolled. These checks intentionally avoid requesting transcripts, IEPs, medical records, discipline records, or detailed attendance files.

The follow-up creates a clearer picture of persistence and learner experience. If the learner says the school did not work out, or the school reports that enrollment stopped, Onward can automatically reopen a Re-Engagement Journey.

Re-engagement does not make the learner start over

The re-engagement workflow preserves the learner's prior goal, program, plan, resume progress, estimated credits, and support context. It asks what changed: schedule, transportation, childcare, work, fit, support, cost, motivation, safety, relocation, or another reason. Then the system updates only what needs to change.

The learner can compare another local option, a verified virtual program, HSE, Adult Workforce Diploma, training, employment, or another pathway. When the situation is complicated, the learner can request a Navigator conversation instead of trying to solve the entire route alone.

Onward also learns from the experience

Learner surveys contribute structured evidence about promise versus reality, enrollment transparency, education quality, career opportunity, support, flexibility, student voice, and progress. These responses are aggregated with sample thresholds and moderation rules so one survey cannot define a school. Written public reviews require separate consent and moderation.

This evidence supports the Onward Score framework, which is designed to compare what organizations promise with what learners actually experience. Premium membership, paid placement, sponsorship, or consulting cannot purchase a higher Onward Score. Commercial participation and quality evaluation are intentionally separated.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ready Set Onward a school? No. Onward is a navigation, matching, support, and handoff platform. Schools and providers control enrollment and credentials.

Does Onward store transcripts? No. It tracks readiness status but directs official documents to the school or provider.

How fast should a learner take action? The Onward Plan is designed around seven days of momentum, even though the provider's full enrollment process may take longer.

What if there are no local schools? Onward should use verified statewide virtual options or offer Navigator help rather than recommending a distant city by default.

What if the school does not respond? Premium referrals can be monitored against a response deadline and escalated when necessary.

What success looks like for Onward

Onward should not define success as a completed assessment or a referral email. The meaningful funnel continues through school response, application, enrollment, start, persistence, completion, re-engagement, and employment or continued education where relevant. The CMS is designed to measure where learners move and where they stop so the organization can improve the parts of the journey that are not working.

That same evidence can support sponsors and high-level partners without exposing individual learner information. Aggregate city demand, barriers, conversion, time to enrollment, partner response, persistence, and re-engagement can show where investment is needed. The platform's value grows when it can demonstrate both reach and verified outcomes rather than relying on page views or lead counts alone.

Why the platform is designed as a guide rather than another institution

Learners already interact with schools, workforce agencies, employers, government programs, and community organizations. Onward is most useful when it reduces the complexity between those systems rather than trying to replace them. It should explain choices, identify local options, preserve planning progress, and make warm introductions while leaving official decisions and records with the organization responsible for them.

That boundary also helps partnerships scale. Schools can focus on enrollment and education, employers on hiring and training, community organizations on support services, and Onward on navigation, consent, follow-up, and ecosystem intelligence. The CMS then shows where those handoffs work and where learners are being lost.
